[IMG] code is Off

Why cant we include images on forum posts? Its seems crazy in this day and age.

Is there some reason behind it?

Why? Lots of people still on dial up, not wanting to wait an hour for large images to download before they can read the thread.

What forums with images off would benefit from having them on anyway?

I would have thought AH would be the first to have images switched on. You know, a light hearted general discussion forum on the media rich internet. And you cant post an image? Seems mental.

Indeed, as I'm sure the OAPs here will remember from the pre-World War age; internet bulletin boards always had image code turned on.

Of course not!

AH has them turned off for a multitude of good reasons, the top three of which are;

1. AH tends to attract those most eager of spammers, who post gigantic porn pictures. Nobody wants to see that ****. Especially when you're moderating from work.
2. AH tends to attract, "Post a picture of your xxxx" threads. Then everyone posts a 1200x1600 image and the thread becomes a f*cking nightmare for anyone not on a university network
3. Lots of pictures simply aren't safe for work, and surveys have shown that 99.999991% of them get posted on After Hours at some point. At least if the image is attached to the post, a warning can be given about its NSFW-ness.

Personally I much prefer the tidiness of attachments on posts rather than hulking great images.

Well, all I know is, when I posted on AH in 1948 from The Manchester Baby, IMG code was definitely turned on. It took 5 Joules per post back then too. Now look at what has become of us.

EDIT: Btw, people have posted images in AH before, porn etc, and I have wondered how they managed it...
